How it works

Everything your family would need, in one place they can actually find.

IvorySafe walks you through gathering the information your family would scramble for in a crisis. It's personalized to your life, encrypted end-to-end, and structured so the people you love can act, not search.

The problem

Every household has a knowledge gap.

One partner usually handles certain things. The other handles the rest. Neither has the full picture, and most of it lives in someone's head.

Partner A

What they know

  • Which bank holds the mortgage and when it auto-pays
  • The login for the joint investment account
  • The life insurance policy number and the broker's name
  • Where the storage unit is and what's in it
VS
Partner B

What they know

  • The pediatrician's name and the kids' allergies
  • Who cleans the house, mows the lawn, and on what day
  • The school pickup schedule and emergency contacts
  • Which subscriptions are on which card and when they renew

If one of you is suddenly unavailable, the other has to figure out everything alone. Usually during the worst week of their life. IvorySafe closes that gap before it matters.

The process

How IvorySafe works, in three steps.

You don't fill out a generic checklist. The platform learns about your life first, then asks for the right information in the right order.

1

Tell us about your life

A short assessment covers the basics: family, work, home, finances. Takes about 10 minutes.

  • Skip what doesn't apply
  • Your vault is built around your answers
  • Nothing generic, nothing irrelevant
2

Fill in your vault

Each section walks you through what to gather, with guided mini-quizzes that ask the right questions for your situation. Do it at your pace.

  • Save and come back anytime
  • Built so nothing important slips through
  • Everything encrypted as you go
3

Designate your contacts

Pick the people you'd want to have access if something happened to you. Set a waiting period for each, so you have time to respond if there's a false alarm.

  • Waiting periods from 6 hours to 2 weeks
  • Free accounts for your contacts
  • We notify you first, every time

Built so even we can't see your vault.

Your data is encrypted on your device before it leaves it. IvorySafe holds the encrypted file. We don't hold the key. That's not a marketing claim, it's how the system is engineered.

End-to-end encrypted

Encryption happens in your browser. The version we store is unreadable without your password.

Zero-knowledge by design

If someone shows up with a warrant, we have nothing readable to hand over. We physically cannot decrypt your data.

Built to SOC 2 standards

Hosted on Digital Ocean with AWS for encrypted storage and backups. Multi-factor authentication is required for every account.

If something happens

What happens when a contact reports you.

A walkthrough using the default 1-week waiting period. You can change this for each contact when you set them up.

Hour 0

An emergency contact reports you

They log into their free IvorySafe account and file a report that you're deceased or incapacitated. Before it goes through, we ask them to confirm the report, and we tell them exactly what will happen if they do, so nothing is set in motion by accident.

Within minutes

We try to reach you

You get an immediate notification by text and email. If it's a false alarm, that message includes a link to a confirmation page where you can cancel the report without logging in. Your contacts were already told that IvorySafe would try to reach you first.

Days 1 to 7

The waiting period

The clock started the moment the report was filed. As long as you don't respond, it keeps counting down. Throughout the waiting period, IvorySafe continues to send you texts and emails, so you have every chance to cancel before access can transfer. This window exists to protect against a report made in error.

End of Day 7

Access opens to your contacts

If you never cancel the report, access opens as each contact's waiting period ends. Every window started the moment the report was filed, so the contact with the shortest waiting period is the first to get read access to your vault, and the others follow as theirs pass.

12 months later

Access ends

Your contacts have 12 months from the report date to use everything and get things in order. At any time during that year, they can export the entire vault as a PDF and keep a permanent copy, so nothing is lost when access ends.

Common questions

About how it works

What if a contact reports me by mistake?
You're notified immediately by text and email the moment a report is filed. If you respond at any point during the waiting period, the report is dismissed and access never transfers. The default waiting period is 1 week, but you can set it anywhere from 6 hours up to 2 weeks for each contact individually. Pick what makes sense for the person and your relationship with them.
Do I have to fill out everything before it's useful?
No. Even a partially filled vault is dramatically more useful to your family than what they have today, which is usually nothing organized. Most people start with the basics, like bank accounts and emergency contacts, and add more over time. The structure makes it obvious where to pick up next.
Can my spouse and I share a vault?
Each person has their own vault on their own subscription. You'd typically list each other as emergency contacts so you have access to each other's information when needed. This keeps each person's information secure under their own credentials, and means a couple ends up with two complementary vaults rather than one shared one.
What if I lose touch with one of my emergency contacts?
You can change emergency contacts at any time from your Emergency Contacts tab. Remove someone, add someone new, or adjust waiting periods whenever your situation changes. It's a good idea to review your contacts once a year or after any major life event like a move, a new relationship, or losing someone.
How long does it really take to get started?
The initial assessment takes about 10 minutes. After that, it's at your pace. Most people set up emergency contacts and fill in the most critical sections in about an hour, then come back to add more over time. Nothing is due. The point is that your family has something useful, not that you've finished a checklist.
